Imprint of Bird on Window

This is the imprint a bird left when it flew into my friend Ashdin's office window in Houston.
It looks like a dove.
I showed this image to some artists at work & they thought it was a photoshop project at first.
"No," I said, "This is just a photo.  A bird hit that window so hard that it left that mark.  Look at the fuckin' detail on that thing..."
Everyone gazed.
Ashdin has described it as kind of spooky.
Looks like a bird's ghost trapped in the glass.
It's even more vivid in person apparently.

Ashdin

This is my dear friend, Ashdin.
Right after I spoke with him about this blog and my desire to focus on poverty with it for a spell soon, a bird flew into his window at work.
Here he is attempting to take a photo of the imprint with his phone.
In the next post, I will show an amazing photo taken of it with a better camera.
The detail on it.
Incredible.

Compassion

I think that Compassion is the most important thing.
I think.
I don't really know.
But that seems reasonable.

Voting

This is the first year since I was legally allowed to vote that I did not.
I don't know if that is a bad thing or a good thing.
I have no moral to push about the topic.
I did draw this in a fake voting booth at a theater while catching up with an old friend though.
It probably would have taken less time to actually vote.
This year, vote art?
No, I'd prefer to still have no message.

Hope

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

I tinkered with another Katsushika Hokusai piece to make the image above.
"Snake Curling around a Bamboo Stalk with a Sparrow on it" is its name.

Calm Down. Sometimes You Gotta Let Go.

I found this statement on the back of a little book I discovered at my friend Jeanne Thornton's novel reading last week.  I typed it over an old Hokusai design the next day at work, then printed & mounted it and put it up by my desk. I love the way Hokusai drew the motion of his birds.

I think it is a great design to set a mood in the office and to point at to show customers an example of one of our digital prints.

"While the rain of your fingertips falls,
while the rain of your bones falls,
and your laughter and marrow fall down,
you come flying."
--Pablo Neruda

R.I.P. Birdie

This bird flew into a window.  I took a photo of it.  It is sad that this happened, but I also would have never seen it otherwise.  I think it's very beautiful.  R.I.P. Birdie.
